Today was a good day :-). I had a Scorpion oval carbon fibre silencer fitted, and the GiVi windshield I ordered arrived as well. The windshield is an A600 (a universal fitting windshield), which cost £93.75 from my local dealer (although from GiVi's catalogue I was expecting it to be around £81).

The left mounting bar obscures the rev counter between about 8500 to 9000rpm, which I don't find to be a problem. The painful neck muscles due to wind blowing on my helmet are now a thing of the past. A brief blast up to 105mph confirmed that there is still no neck strain, the bike was stable, and the windshield remained in place :-). There is some turbulence around my neck and chest, but that's not a problem (and helps to keep you cool in hot weather!). The bottom of the windshield flaps about a bit, maybe if it was touching the headlamp it wouldn't? I've since seen 128mph on the speedo and the bike was still perfectly stable, and I only had to lean slightly forward to get out of the wind. (The other extra is my old solar powered Casio watch strapped to the handlebar to the right of the clutch lever! Oh, and the mirrors are another thing I've changed, these being a little wider for a better view, although they suffer a little from vibration.)

This oval carbon fibre silencer cost £239 and the connecting pipe £20 (fitting free from DynoMite in Boscombe, Bournemouth). They have also supplied a connecting pipe so that I can easily (I think!) put the original silencer back on if I wish too. See my previous page to hear what this sounds like (approximately). I think it sounds nice, with a deep sound, but I was also pleased to find out that it's not too loud. Cruising at 70mph I can just hear it above the wind roar, although it's louder under acceleration. It sounds great at low revs and when blipping the throttle. Just what I wanted :-).

I've checked the plugs to confirm that it does not run too weak, and they appear to be correct in saying that you don't need to have it rejetted.

The round blue anodised alloy silencer on my current SV normally costs £139 pounds (I got it for £125) including the connecting pipe, and sounds the same as the oval carbon fibre silencer (from what I remember). Just before I sold the yellow SV I discovered that the carbon fibre silencer had split open on the seam at the front of the silencer, leaving a black stain on the swinging arm. The alloy silencer doesn't have a seam so I'd expect (and hope) it will be more robust.
