My initial impressions of the SV1000 are:

The ride was way too hard for me (I weigh just over 10st). I was being bounced out of the seat on bumpy roads, which wasn't very comfortable (and it makes you slow down, which isn't so much fun!). After adjusting the suspension a few times it's much better, but my SV650 is still a little softer and more comfortable over the bumps. The seat is also harder and narrower than on my SV650, so that doesn't help ride comfort either.

The riding position is slightly more lean forward than on my SV650, so it's not so comfortable if I spend a lot of time at town speeds. It does perhaps make cruising at higher speeds a little more comfortable though.

If I cruise at a constant speed in the 40 - 60mph range for too long the vibration starts to make my hands tingle (mainly my right hand), but I've not had the dreaded white finger symptons yet. Otherwise the vibration isn't too noticable or bothersome.

It's a little heavier and slower turning than my SV650, but it's still fun to ride.

The fuel consumption is better than I expected, so far varying between 53mpg and 59mpg.

Immediately after the running in oil change service it developed the infamous clutch noise. The clutch makes a knocking noise which can be heard on tickover when the engine has fully warmed up. Pulling the clutch lever in stops, or greatly reduces, the noise. There are rumours that there might be a recall to replace the clutch basket, but I've not heard anything official yet.
